MUSIC CLASSES

Choir/Vocal Training – Erin Anderson
In this class we will explore techniques and skills to better improve the students singing abilities such as interval training, how to sing and breathe properly, and proper vowel placement. We will focus on singing together as a group of mixed voices, both a capella and accompanied. This will grow the student’s ear training skills and teach them how to work together as a group, not just a solo singer. Weekly assignments given to strengthen ability, so student must be committed to daily practice. At the end of the 16 week period, the student will perform pieces we have worked on in class and be able to take what they have learned and apply it to other performing groups in the future.
For ages 13-18
Requirement: Must have ability to sing on pitch, audition during first two classes.
Tuesdays 5p-6:15p

Drums for 2nd year students – Tim Dyeson
This class will continue to teach basic rudiments on the snare drum and transition to the drum set. The emphasis will be on training the ear to hear and the body to respond. There will some limited sight reading training. The emphasis of the course is to introduce students to drumming for a worship setting.
For ages 7 - Adult
Required Materials: Snare Practice Kit
Tuesdays 4:45p - 5:30p

Fiddle for 2nd/3rd year students – Lilja Voetberg
This class will emphasize fundamental technique; bowing, intonation, and rhythm by teaching fun fiddle tunes and creating opportunities to perform. I will be using the O’Connor method which takes into consideration that, learning music that contains a timeless quality is a healthy bridge that can be built between all generations and develops a lifelong love of music-making. Beginner and early intermediate tunes can be great tunes, and could very well stay with the student for a lifetime of playing and performing.
For ages 6-9
Prerequisites: At least one year of previous instruction and must be able to have fun!
Required Materials: Violin (in playable condition) and Shoulder rest available at Ray Violin Shop in Olympia
Thursdays 3:30p - 4:30p
